A living community

Polish Association
in Slough

Since 1951, Polish Association in Slough has been a meeting place for the Polish community in Slough, a place to celebrate our culture, share traditions and create new memories together. With spacious grounds, sports facilities and halls available for hire, we are also a welcoming venue for family celebrations, weddings, corporate events, sporting activities and community gatherings.

History

The history of the Polish community in Slough is deeply connected to the wider history of Poland and the experiences of displacement following the Second World War. The Association itself was founded in the early 1950s, when Polish families- many of whom had arrived in the UK as refugees or ex-servicemen- began to settle permanently in the Slough area.

Faced with the challenges of rebuilding their lives after the war, they created a strong and supportive community. A Polish parish was established, a Saturday school began teaching children the Polish language and traditions, and a social club was formed to provide a place for gathering, support, and cultural life.
In 1953, the first Annual General Meeting of the Polish Social Club marked the formal organisation of what would later become the Polish Association. Over time, the community grew, purchased its own premises, and developed the facilities that exist today, including halls, sports areas, and recreational spaces.

In 1989, following the restoration of Poland’s sovereignty, the Polish community in Slough reflected proudly on decades of maintaining identity, culture, and unity while living abroad. The Association remains a testament to resilience, tradition, and community spirit.

Today, it continues to evolve, welcoming new generations of Poles and supporting cultural diversity, integration, and mutual understanding within the wider local community.
